Launched in Victoria in 2022

The NRL Wheelchair Rugby League program in Victoria, launched in late 2022, was successfully implemented through strategic efforts by NRL Wheelchair Rugby League Victoria Inc. This state body collaborated with NRL VIC to adapt inclusive programs that enabled athletes with and without disabilities to compete together.
Come and Try sessions and skill development workshops, were provided across greater Melbourne such as but not limited to Casey (southeast), Footscray (central west) and Werribee (southwest). The program leveraged partnerships with schools and organisations, using initiatives like NRL School Visits to promote inclusivity. Funding, including awards like the Wes Smythe secured court time, equipment and promotional resources, amongst others.

The introduction of the NRL Wheelchair Rugby League program in Victoria, since receiving the financial Wes Smythe Award, addresses a critical need for inclusive sports, fostering social cohesion and empowerment.
