Volunteer of the Month- MAY

A huge congratulations to our incredible May Volunteers of the Month!

We have such dedicated, passionate and supportive volunteers who make a real difference in our rugby league community.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination — while we can only highlight a few, we are so grateful for the hard work and commitment of all our volunteers.

Stacy O'Dea- Melton Broncos

Stacey began her journey with us as a parent simply looking to help out, but she has quickly become an indispensable part of our team.

She first stepped in to manage one of our junior teams, offering guidance, support, and encouragement to our young players. Since then, she has gone above and beyond, regularly volunteering in the canteen on home game days—often one of the first to arrive and the last to leave.

Stacey is a role model for other volunteers—reliable, enthusiastic, and deeply committed. Much of her work happens behind the scenes, but it never goes unnoticed. She is an integral part of our club, and we are incredibly grateful for everything she brings to our community.

Clay Sawake- Wodonga Wombats

Clay consistently goes above and beyond in his role as one of our invaluable centre referees within the GMSP competition. His willingness to step up- often officiating multiple games in a single day- demonstrates his commitment to the role and his deep understanding of how important referees are to the success and integrity of our game.

In addition to this, Clay is also a passionate coach of the Wodonga Wombats’ league tag team, and a respected person within the GMSP competition. He is always willing to lend a hand when needed and provide support to other referees and players.

Bek Sparrow- Doveton Steelers

Bek is an incredible volunteer who always checks in on the boys whether they’re injured or just not quite themselves. If she notices something is off during training, she doesn't hesitate to follow up with a call to parents to check in on players’ wellbeing. Many parents value this care and attention, and at Doveton, we truly appreciate the time and effort she puts in.

If another team is ever in need of a strapper, Bek is the first to put up her hand and help out.

Bek Sparrow is one of the most humble and incredible people at the club. We are genuinely lucky to have her.

Brent Hansen- Wangaratta Knights

The amount of work that Brent contributes- not only to our club but to the entire league- is truly extraordinary.

Week in and week out, Brent ensures that the Glenrowan venue is fully prepared for game day. From the line marking to the signage, canteen and player protection. Brent is selfless with what he does for our club and the league. Without him as President of the club and a part of the team, we probably wouldn’t have a team.

I think he is more than deserving to receive this award. We as a club are very lucky to have Brent as our club president and a part of the team as we probably wouldn't have a team without him and the work that he does on and off the field.

Chloe Teao- Werribee Bears

As our club's canteen manager, Chloe brings incredible fun and energy to every event.

One of the standout ways Chloe makes an impact is through her thoughtful, spontaneous gestures, like providing free hot drinks with biscuits and cakes for our coaching staff during training nights. This not only boosts morale but also brings a sense of community, allowing us to mingle and catch up after long days.

Chloe goes above and beyond to support all our teams, from U6 to seniors. For example, during registration time, she takes the initiative to help parents with the registrations, ensuring every child is signed up without hassle. There is no club question she doesn’t have an answer to. Chloe’s efforts to sort out club merchandise have helped boost sales and provide players with the gear they need to feel like a part of the team.
