Preseason knockout competition kicking off for 2023

Round one of the preseason knockout competition will take place on Saturday 18th March at Comely Banks Reserve. The location of some games may vary and be played more locally depending on entrants from regional areas.

Here's everything you need to know.

How it works:

• Round 1: Saturday 18th March Comely Banks. Some games will played more locally depending on entrants from regional areas)

• Round 2: Saturday 25th March

• Round 3 (Finals Day): Saturday 1st April (venue TBD – based on finalists)

Entry Fee:

The cost to enter a team is $300 but if clubs participate in all 3 weeks they will recieve $150 back at the end.

Prize money will be determined by the number of team entries, while the winning team will also receive a trophy and medals.

Who:

If this year's tournament is a success we will be looking to expand the competition in 2024, however, this season the categories will be senior men and senior women League Tag.

Given our women’s team statewide are limited as well as looking to incorporate our Murray Cup teams, the women's division will consist of League Tag teams.

What (the Format):

Knockout: You lose and you’re out of the running to win. However, you will be assigned another team who also lost to play in week 1 and 2 as a sanctioned trial game.

We’ll hold a live draft to determine who plays who in the lead-up to Round 1 of the knockout competition.

Playing Conditions:

Men: Full international field, 13 a side, played under our normal playing conditions, policies and rules and regulations.

Women: Flexible depending on team entries (and format), played under our normal playing conditions, policies and rules and regulations.

Half-length will be determined in the early rounds by number of teams entered into the competition.

Clubs will be required to pay referees fees for these matches and also meet all compliance requirements of a normal round game. All players and volunteers will need to be registered to participate.
