Below is letter sent to all NRL Victoria clubs in response to latest announcement from State Government of Victoria.
Dear Clubs and Affiliates,
Yesterday, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced a return of the restrictions many of us had hoped to never encounter again.
These restrictions will have an immediate impact on community sport in our state; however, remain critical to combat the largest daily increase in COVID cases in Victoria since the start of the pandemic.
We have said from the very start that nothing is more important than the health and safety of our participants, parents, volunteers, coaches and supporters, and that we would always act on the best advice from the government and health authorities. This has not changed.
In light of yesterday’s announcement, NRL Victoria has the following updates:
All competitions, training and community rugby league programs in Melbourne will be suspended until further notice;
NRL Victoria will continue to communicate and provide assistance to clubs and volunteers impacted by the decision;
NRL Victoria will continue to liaise with State and Local Government;
NRL Victoria will continue to work with regional Clubs and Leagues to determine how participation can continue within the current environment.
Your patience and resilience through this time has been incredible and I can’t thank you enough for your understanding. It will be needed once again as we look to overcome this latest challenge; however, we are better prepared now to act and respond having experienced the last few months together as a community.
I will be attending a meeting with Sport & Recreation Victoria later this week and will commit to providing feedback regarding the future of participation in 2020 for rugby league as soon as possible.
Thank you once again for your time, patience and understanding and we will be in touch again very soon.
Please stay strong, stay healthy and continue to support your communities in these times.
