Junior Rep Report: Round 6
Melbourne Storm’s Jersey Flegg side has continued its strong vein of form, keeping the Parramatta Eels scoreless in the second half to record a 24-12 win in Round 6.
After showing some great defensive resilience to defend their own line, Storm marched downfield and opened the scoring through Matthew Hill in the 8th minute, the versatile outside back soaring high to collect another pinpoint De’Ontae Perese cross-field kick.
After Parramatta replied with two tries of their own to lead 12-6 at the break, Storm came out and produced an improved second half, able to wrestle momentum back in their favour.
After finding the tryline against the Tigers last week, K-CI Newton-Whare replicated a similar effort in the 39th minute, cutting back on an angle to expose some tired Parramatta forwards before dispatching the Eels fullback to score under the posts.
Building pressure attacking the Eels line, De’Ontae Perse then capped off his strong performance with a solo try, throwing the dummy and going himself to score in the 45th minute.
Able to deny the hosts who were pushing hard for a late equaliser, Storm’s defensive grit was eventually rewarded with points of its own, Matthew Hill scoring late in the contest to cement the win on the road.
Now just one win shy of the 1st placed Canberra Raiders, Storm will have a chance to flex their muscles against the current ladder leaders when they play host to the green machine on Saturday.
